About

Hi, I’m Katie, the founder of Based in Strength, personal trainer, and passionate advocate for helping young people feel strong, confident, and connected to their bodies.

Growing up, I felt dismissed by the traditional PE curriculum. Because I didn’t enjoy competitive sports, I assumed I just wasn’t “into movement.” But what I really needed was a different approach, one that made me feel included, curious, and empowered.

Like many young people, I struggled with body image and developed an eating disorder rooted in confusion, pressure, and misinformation. I didn’t understand how my body truly worked, and I believed so many of the damaging myths that still circulate today about food, fitness, and what “healthy” should look like.

What helped me heal was education. Real, science-based understanding of how the body responds to movement, nourishment, rest, and stress. I began to rebuild my relationship with exercise, not as punishment, but as empowerment. I learned that strength isn’t just physical; it’s mental, emotional, and deeply personal.

That’s why I started Based in Strength. To give young people what I never had: honest education, supportive coaching, and a space where movement isn’t about being the best; it’s about feeling your best.

Today, I deliver workshops in schools that teach resistance training, movement mechanics, nutrition basics, and body confidence all in a way that’s inclusive, fun, and judgment-free.

My mission is to help children and teens build real strength from the inside out.
